Vinca minor L.

Vinca minor

Vinca minor, commonly known as lesser periwinkle or dwarf periwinkle, is a trailing subshrub native to central and southern Europe. It spreads along the ground and forms large clonal colonies, occasionally scrambling up to 40 centimeters high. The leaves are evergreen, opposite, glossy dark green with a leathery texture, and measure 2–4.5 cm long and 1–2.5 cm broad. The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils, mainly produced from early spring to mid-summer, and are violet-purple with a five-lobed corolla. The fruit is a pair of follicles containing numerous seeds.
