Vicia sativa, commonly known as common vetch or garden vetch, is a nitrogen-fixing leguminous plant. It is an annual herb with hollow, four-sided stems that can reach up to two meters in length. The leaves are compound, with 3–8 pairs of linear or lance-shaped leaflets. The flowers are pea-like, bright pink-purple in color, and occur in the leaf axils. The fruit is a legume pod that contains 4–12 seeds.
