Serratula tinctoria, commonly known as dyer's plumeless saw-wort or saw-wort is a perennial herb with wiry, branched, erect grooved stems growing up to 80 cm tall. The leaves are long, hairless with finely bristle-toothed edges and vary in shape from undivided lanceolate to deeply pinnatifid. The flowerheads are thistle-like, reddish-purple and arranged in loose leafy inflorescences. The plant typically has a simple, feathery yellowish pappus.
