It is also naturalized in other regions such as North America, southern South America, Japan, and New Zealand. The plant forms mat-like stands with short, semi-prostrate stems that lengthen during the flowering period in June and July. The leaves are fleshy, cylindrical, and sometimes tinged with red. The starry yellow flowers form a three to six-flowered cyme, and the plant contains an acrid fluid that can cause skin rashes.
