Salvia pratensis, commonly known as meadow sage or meadow clary, is a herbaceous perennial plant native to Europe, western Asia, and northern Africa. It grows in meadows, fields, banks, and rough places. The plant forms a basal clump 1 to 1.5 meters tall with rich green, slightly ruffled and toothed leaves. The stems are four-edged and covered in glandular and soft hairs. Flowers typically grow up to 2.5 centimeters, are usually bluish-violet in the wild but can vary widely in color when cultivated. The flowers form a lax spike, with four to six flowers in each verticil.
