Salvia nemorosa, commonly known as woodland sage or blue sage, is a hardy herbaceous perennial plant native to central Europe and Western Asia. It is known for its attractive appearance and ease of cultivation, with many cultivars and hybrids available. The plant has numerous leafy stems growing from the base at the beginning of summer, and its inflorescences feature closely spaced whorls of small flowers with brightly colored calyces.

The chemistry of Salvia nemorosa includes a variety of bioactive compounds. These include diterpenes and triterpenes such as nemorone, nemorosin, horminone, 7-acetylhorminone, salvinemorol, and megastigmane glycosides (salvionosides A, B, and C). Additionally, it contains pachystazone, salvipisone, α-amyrin, ursolic and oleanolic acids, stigmast-7-en-3-one, 24-methylenecycloartanol, stigmast-4-en-3-one, β-sitosterol, and stigmast-7-enol. The plant also has flavonoids like salvigenin, eupatilin, apigenin, and luteolin.
Salvia nemorosa has medicinal uses. In Russia, it is used to treat diarrhea and hemorrhages. The leaves are applied externally in Turkish medicine to stop bleeding.
