Common Mallow

Common mallow is a prostrate, downy, annual herbaceous plant that grows to approximately 60 centimeters. It has alternate leaves with long, strongly channeled petioles and narrowly triangular stipules. Each leaf is reniform or has 5–7 shallow lobes, with basal leaves measuring 3–7 centimeters. The flowers are single-stalked and occur in clusters of 2–5 in the leaf axils, with flower stalks shorter than the leaf stalks. The fruits are schizocarps that split into 10–12 mericarps (nutlets) and are smooth and hairy.
