Motherwort
Motherwort is a herbaceous perennial plant with a square-shaped, hairy stem that may be purplish near the nodes. It has opposite leaves with serrated margins and palmately lobed structures, with upper leaves having three to five lobes. The flowers are pink to lilac and appear in leaf axils on the upper part of the plant. The fruit is a four-chambered schizocarp, and the plant grows to about 60-100 cm in height.

Motherwort contains several bioactive compounds, including the alkaloid leonurine and stachydrine. It also includes iridoid glycosides, diterpenoids, flavonoids such as rutin and quercetin, tannins, volatile oils, and vitamin A. Stachydrine has been studied for its potential benefits in treating fibrosis, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, uterine diseases, brain injuries, and inflammation.
Motherwort has been traditionally used for its medicinal properties. It was considered useful for removing melancholy vapors from the heart and improving cheerfulness. In some cultures, it was believed to protect against evil spirits. Additionally, it has been used as a bee foraging plant and to attract bumblebees.
