Lamium maculatum, also known as spotted dead-nettle and purple dragon, is a prostrate, spreading herbaceous perennial. It is native to Europe and temperate Asia. The plant has erect, hollow and pubescent stems, which are branched at the base only. Leaves are soft hairy with varying shapes from ovate-triangular to heart-shaped, and they can have spots. The inflorescence bears hermaphrodite flowers about 20–30 millimeters long, with upper lips that are helmet-shaped and usually pink or purplish, while the bilobate lower ones are whitish with purple dots. The flowering period extends from April through November.
