Sweet Woodruff
Sweet Woodruff is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows to a height of 25–50 cm. It often lies flat on the ground or is supported by other plants. The leaves are simple, lanceolate, glabrous, and arranged in whorls of 6–9. The small white flowers are produced in cymes and have four petals joined at the base. The fruits are covered in tiny hooked bristles that aid in dispersal.

The plant's sweet scent is due to the presence of coumarin. Coumarin is a compound known for its fragrant properties and has been used in various culinary applications. However, it is toxic to rats and mice in studies but not harmful to humans even in large doses.
Sweet Woodruff is widely cultivated for its flowers and sweet-smelling foliage. It is used in potpourri, as a moth deterrent, and to flavor various foods and beverages such as May wine, sweet juice punch, syrup for beer, brandy, jelly, jam, soft drinks, ice cream, and herbal tea. It is also used in alcoholic beverages like sweet woodruff-flavored jellies and sherbet powder.
