Field Eryngo, also known as Watling Street thistle, is a perennial plant with tough, stiff, whitish-green leaves that are long-stalked and pinnate. The plant is hairless, prickly, and has spines on the leaf lobes. It resembles sea holly but is taller and less robust with paler stems and leaves. The flower heads are white, smaller, and more globular than those of sea holly.
