Uses:

Traditionally used to treat dysentery and known as Sophia Chirurgorum, 'The Wisdom of Surgeons.' In Iran, the seeds are used to make khak-e shir drinks, favored as a thirst quencher during hot summer days. It is also used in traditional Iranian medicine for various effects ranging from antidiuretic to aphrodisiac.
