A perennial herbaceous flowering plant known in North America as fireweed and in Britain and Ireland as rosebay willowherb. It is native to the temperate Northern Hemisphere, including large parts of the boreal forests. The plant has reddish stems that are usually simple, erect, smooth, and 0.5–2 meters high with scattered alternate leaves. The inflorescence is a symmetrical terminal raceme that blooms progressively from bottom to top, producing pink flowers. The seeds have silky hairs to aid wind dispersal.

The plant contains various vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, provitamin A, iron, copper, potassium, and calcium. It also has medicinal properties, particularly in the roots.

Uses:

The young shoots and leaves can be cooked and eaten, as well as the flowers. The roots are traditionally eaten raw by Siberian Native people. The leaves can be used to make tea, known as Ivan-Chai or Koporsky tea in Russia. The plant is also used for medicinal purposes, such as treating pus-filled boils or cuts.
