Cuckoo Flower

Cuckoo Flower is a herbaceous, perennial plant that can grow up to 60 cm tall. It has pinnate leaves with 5–12 cm long leaflets, each about 1 cm long. The flowers are produced on a spike that is 10–30 cm long, each flower being 1–2 cm in diameter with four very pale violet-pink (rarely white) petals. The fruit is a seed pod up to 5 cm long.

Uses:

The plant is edible with a peppery taste similar to watercress. It is also a food plant for the orange-tip butterfly (Anthocharis cardamines). In folklore, it was considered sacred to fairies and was not included in May Day garlands due to this belief.
