It has branching upright stems topped by large flower heads and pinnate leaves resembling those of fennel. The plant grows to a height of 30–60 cm and has white ray florets with three-toothed shapes.

Historically, Anthemis cotula was believed to have antimalarial properties and was planted by Johnny Appleseed. However, it is now considered an aggressive invasive weed.
