Agrimonia eupatoria
Common Agrimony
Common agrimony is a deciduous, perennial herbaceous plant that can grow up to 100 cm (39 inches) tall. It has deep rhizomes and characteristic serrated pinnate leaves. The plant is covered in soft hairs that aid in seed dispersal by sticking to animals or people. Its flower spikes have a spicy odor reminiscent of apricots and bloom from June to September, with each flower featuring an urn-shaped curved flower cup adorned with soft, hooked bristles. The flowers are hermaphrodite with five petals and five sepals, and the fruits are achenes with hooks that facilitate dispersal.

Common agrimony has a long history of medicinal use, including traditional folklore remedies for wound healing and as a tonic. It has been used to treat musket wounds by being brewed into 'arquebusade water' and was believed to ward off witchcraft. In modern times, it is known for its astringent properties and is used in herbal medicine to treat diarrhea and wounds.
