Foeniculum vulgare

Foeniculum vulgare Mill.

Fennel

Fennel is a hardy, perennial herb with yellow flowers and feathery leaves. It is indigenous to the Mediterranean region but has become widely naturalized in many parts of the world, especially on dry soils near sea coasts and riverbanks. The plant can grow up to 2.1 meters tall, with leaves that are finely dissected and thread-like, resembling those of dill but thinner. The flowers are produced in compound umbels, and the fruit is a dry schizocarp that is often mistakenly called a seed.
