Achillea millefolium, commonly known as yarrow or common yarrow, is a flowering plant characterized by small whitish flowers and a tall stem of fernlike leaves. The dark blue essential oil of yarrow contains chemicals called proazulenes, including chamazulene and δ-Cadinol. Yarrow also contains isovaleric acid, salicylic acid, asparagine, sterols, flavonoids, and phenolic acids such as gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, vanillic acid, caffeic acid, syringic acid, p-coumaric acid, sinapic acid, ferulic acid, cinnamic acid and flavonoids such as myricetin, hesperidin, quercetin, luteolin, kaempferol, apigenin, rutin, hyperoside.

Uses:

Yarrow has been used historically for medicinal purposes due to its astringent properties and mild laxative effect. It has been used to heal wounds, stop bleeding, treat nosebleeds, and as an analgesic. The plant is also used in traditional Native American medicine for various ailments such as toothaches, earaches, and throat infections. Yarrow can be used to combat soil erosion due to its drought resistance.
