Torminalis glaberrima

Torminalis glaberrima, commonly known as the wild service tree or chequers tree, is a medium-sized deciduous tree growing up to 30 meters tall. It has smooth grey bark when young, which becomes scaly and flaking in older trees. The leaves are broadly 7-lobed, dark green on both sides with finely toothed margins. The flowers are white, produced in corymbs in late spring to early summer and are hermaphroditic. The fruit is a globose to ovoid pome, greenish to russet or brown when mature.
