Hedlundia hybrida is a medium-sized deciduous tree growing to 10–15 meters tall with a stout trunk up to 60 centimeters in diameter. The leaves are green above and densely hairy with white hairs beneath, measuring 7–12 centimeters long and 5–8 centimeters broad. The leaves are lobed with six to nine oval lobes on each side, and the margins are finely serrated. The flowers are 20 millimeters in diameter with five white petals and 20 yellowish-white stamens, produced in late spring. The fruit is a globose pome 7–12 millimeters in diameter, bright red, and maturing in mid-autumn.
