Salix alba

Salix alba L.

White Willow

The White Willow is a medium to large deciduous tree native to Europe and western and central Asia. It grows up to 10–30 meters tall with a trunk diameter of up to 1 meter and an irregular, often-leaning crown. The bark is grey-brown and deeply fissured in older trees. The leaves are paler than most other willows due to fine, silky white hairs on the underside. The flowers are produced in catkins in early spring and are pollinated by insects. It is dioecious, with male and female catkins on separate trees.
