Rubus saxatilis

Rubus saxatilis L. 1753

Rubus saxatilis

Rubus saxatilis, commonly known as the stone bramble or roebuck berry, is a perennial plant with biennial stems that die after fruiting in their second year. It produces long runners that root at the tip to form new plants. The stems are 20–60 centimeters tall and covered with many small spines. The leaves are alternate, stalked, usually compound, and consist of three oval leaflets with serrated margins. The inflorescence is a few-flowered corymb, and the flowers have five sepals and five narrow white petals. The fruit is an aggregate of several red, fleshy drupes that are 1–1.5 centimeters in diameter.
