Quercus rubra

Northern Red Oak

The Northern Red Oak is a tall, deciduous tree native to North America. It grows straight and tall, reaching up to 28 meters (92 feet) with a trunk diameter of up to 1 meter. Open-grown trees can have stouter trunks but are not as tall. The tree has a narrow, rounded head with branches growing at right angles to the stem. It is known for its distinctive bark featuring shiny stripes down the center. The leaves are oblong-ovate to oblong, with seven to eleven lobes, and turn a rich red in autumn. The acorns are about 1 to 1.25 inches long and mature in about 18 months after pollination.
