The Caucasian Wingnut is a species of tree known for its characteristic winged nuts. It is monoecious, growing to a height of up to 30 meters with widely spreading branches. The pinnate leaves can exceed 60 cm in length and comprise 7 to 27 sessile leaflets. The male catkins are thick, green, and 7.5 to 12.5 cm long, while the female catkins are longer with less dense flowers and bear red styles forming fruiting catkins 30 to 50 cm long. The green, winged nuts are approximately 1.8 cm wide.
