The chemistry of Pinus nigra includes various terpenes and resins typical of pine trees, which contribute to its aromatic properties. These compounds have been studied for their potential medicinal and industrial uses.
The timber is used for general construction, fuel, and in paper manufacture. It has ethnobotanical uses such as curing acne, common cold, osteomyelitis, and viral infections. It is also used as an ornamental tree in gardens and parks due to its resistance to salt spray, industrial pollutants, and intermediate drought tolerance. It is planted for windbreaks and shelterbelts.
