Elaeagnus angustifolia
Elaeagnus angustifolia, commonly known as Russian olive or silver berry, is a thorny tree that can grow up to 11 meters in height. It has silvery to rusty scales covering its stems, buds, and leaves. The leaves are lanceolate, 4–9 centimeters long, and 1–2.5 centimeters broad with a smooth margin. The plant begins to flower and fruit from 3 years old. The highly aromatic flowers are produced in clusters of one to three, are about 1 centimeter long with a four-lobed creamy yellow calyx, and appear in early summer. The fruits are small cherry-like drupes covered in silvery scales, about 1 centimeter wide and orange-red in color. The plant is primarily reproduced by seed but also through vegetative propagation.
