Chamaecyparis lawsoniana, commonly known as Port Orford cedar or Lawson's cypress, is a large evergreen conifer tree native to Oregon and northwestern California. It can grow up to 81 meters tall with trunks reaching diameters of up to 3.65 meters. The bark is silver-brown, vertically furrowed, and thick near the base. The foliage is lacy, flat sprays with a feathery appearance, usually blue-green in color. The leaves are scale-like and give off a pungent scent similar to parsley.

The wood of Chamaecyparis lawsoniana contains an oil that gives it a highly fragrant ginger aroma. This oil is known for its repellent properties against decay and insects, including termites.
