Hickory nuts are rich in fats (64%), proteins (13%), and carbohydrates (18%). They are a good source of B vitamins, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, and copper. The nuts contain essential amino acids such as tryptophan, threonine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, and others.

Uses:

Hickory nuts are edible and have been a significant food source for indigenous peoples. The wood is used for tool handles, bows, wheel spokes, walking sticks, drumsticks, and wood flooring. It is also prized for smoking cured meats and as a fuel in wood-burning stoves. The bark is used to produce dyes and lye for soapmaking.
