Barberry

Barberry is a deciduous shrub growing up to 4 meters (13 feet) high. It produces edible but sharply acidic berries, which are often used in jams and cooking. The leaves are small, oval, 2–5 centimeters long and 1–2 centimeters broad, with a serrated margin. The flowers are yellow, 4–6 millimeters across, and produced on panicles in late spring. The fruit is an oblong red berry ripening in late summer or autumn.
