Albizia julibrissin
Persian Silk Tree
The Persian silk tree, also known as the pink silk tree or mimosa tree, is a small deciduous tree with a broad crown of level or arching branches. It grows to 5–16 meters (16–52 ft) tall and has dark greenish grey bark that becomes vertically striped with age. The leaves are large and frond-like, bipinnate, divided into 6–12 pairs of pinnae, each with 20–30 pairs of leaflets. The flowers bloom throughout the summer in dense inflorescences, resembling starbursts of pink silky threads. The true flowers have a tight cluster of prominent stamens, 2–3 cm long and white or pink with a white base. The fruit is a flat brown pod 10–20 cm long and 2–2.5 cm broad, containing several seeds inside.
