Field Maple

The field maple, also known as Acer campestre, is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 15–25 meters tall with a trunk diameter of up to 1 meter. It has finely fissured, often corky bark and brown shoots with dark brown winter buds. The leaves are in opposite pairs, 5–16 cm long and 5–10 cm broad, with five blunt, rounded lobes and a smooth margin. The tree produces yellow-green flowers in spring, which are insect-pollinated. The fruit is a samara with two winged achenes.
